Hi, I’m Bronwynne! Greetings from Cape Town, South Africa!
Welcome to bronwynnepowell.com, a space where we can have conversations about using communication and tech to inspire people and change the world.
I’ve spent the past five years working as a media spokesperson in the office of Alan Winde, a Minister in the Western Cape Government. It was an amazing learning experience, and Minister Winde is unlike any politician you will ever meet. From him, I had the opportunity to learn so much about entrepreneurship, and how innovation could solve some of our social challenges.
Before my time in the Ministry of Economic Opportunities, I was a journalist with the Weekend Argus and Cape Argus, two regional mainstream newspapers in the Western Cape. I was lucky enough sit at the feet of some of South Africa’s greatest journalists. They freely shared their knowledge of storytelling and using your writing to change the world.
These experiences have shaped me, and driven me to learn more about communication as a tool for social change. This is a theme I explored when I completed my Honours in Media Theory and Practice at the University of Cape Town in 2016.
I am fascinated by the convergence of technology and communications, the battle for attention and how social networks, specifically Facebook, are changing the way we interact with each other, and how organisations reach their audience.
I’ll be posting weekly articles on communications, technology, media and press relations. I will also be sharing experiences and lessons I have learnt over the past few years. I hope you will find this helpful. If you have any suggestions, or would like to introduce yourself, say hi in the comments!
